If your Microsoft Edge browser shows the message “Your browser is being managed by your organization” on a personal computer, it usually means some policies have been set via the Windows Registry that control Edge’s behavior. This can happen due to leftover settings from software tweaks, malware, or manual changes. It can also cause issues like your saved data, passwords, or history being deleted on browser restart.
Here’s how to fix this issue and remove the “managed by organization” message:
- Reset Microsoft Edge Settings :
Open Edge.
Go to Settings — Reset Settings — Restore settings to their default values.
Confirm the reset and restart Edge.
2. Delete Edge Policies from Windows Registry
Commands Used:
reg delete HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /f
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /f
Clear Edge Profile Data (Optional)
If the problem persists, clearing your Edge user profile may help (note this will remove most browser data):
Close Edge completely.
Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\
Rename the folder corresponding to your profile (e.g., Default to Default_backup).
Restart Edge (a new profile folder will be created).
